The Next couple of weeks we will be focusing on the American presidential election. You will be working with Internet resources in groups ( BBC and Politiken ). You are expected to prepare a written report to be handed in on Nov. 20th. Your report must be written in English. Make sure that you use your own words and do not copy whole sentences and passages from your sources.
Your report should include answers to the following questions:
1. A short presentation of the presidential candidates and the candidates for Vice President. Emphasize their strong and weak points and consider to what extent the presidential candidates and their candidates for vice president complement each other (balancing the ticket).
2. A short account of the two presidential candidates' stand on key issues like: the economy, the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and national security, Iran, health care, climate change, abortion and illegal immigration. Emphasize the differences. (see BBC's Issues Guide and Politikens "Største politiske forskelle link")
Test Yourself . You might want to find out which candidate you agree with most.
Oral presentation: Analyze a campaign video from either McCain or Obama using the link below :
The Living room candidate Museum of the Moving Image.
Choose from the following videos:
Obama: Country I Love, 100 Years, Not Now, Original, Hands
McCain: Man in the Arena, Global, Pump, Troops, Service to America
When you analyze the video, you should focus on what issues are dealt with in the video and how they are presented. In this connection you must look at the argumentation and the use of filmic effects.
